On time? The other companies just announced, and are not actually shipping. Give apple time, I'm sure they'll be shipping before the others. :-)
yea, with tons of problems to the machines.
i love apple, but everytime i buy one of there laptops, they suck!

I hope that I will like it. I hate the new screen bezel on the MacBook Air. The Unibody design is just beautiful and timeless. Pure Aluminum is great - no scratches and easy to clean..
Nice. My 17 MBP (Early 2009) will be getting close to the end of its life cycle by then, allowing me to easily slide into a new MBP.
That's just idiotic. I upgraded from a 2006 MB to a 2011 15" i7, to say I'm satisfied is an understatement. Hideous it is not even near - I've played with the new designs before but nothing comes close to it sitting on your desk.
You're getting all pissy over something that's just a rumour and you don't even know if you're going to like it or not!
Wow a little of topic, but how often do you all buy a new laptop? I used to have Windows Laptops until I switched in 2009 and I would use them till they break (1,5 - 2 Years). My 2009 MBP is still running really good. I bought 8GB RAM for it a week ago and now even Windows 7 runs reasonably fast.

They do build in obsolescence into the ipod as you can't replace the battery (easily). It does become a disposable item, although a pricey one at that. I do love the ipod (even though I don't own one) but this puts me off to the point where I just can't go through with actually buying one. My experience with rechargeable batteries in mobile phones and lap top isn't good.
Meh, don't worry about the batteries. Sure, some people have problems, but my 3G ipod is still doing surprisingly well! It may have lost a little bit of charge since I bought it but it still lasts at least 7 hours. Maybe I'm just lucky. Or maybe it knows it needs to behave before the sweet widescreen video ipod comes out. Or else. :D

Dude. You have a double standard. If Apple were to infringe on the copyright of someone else, you would be here pitchfork in hand screaming for blood.
If you look on other sites like macnn, you will see that the airfoil app does not only display Apple icons but rather the icon of whatever browser is configured as the main browser. They cannot make the claim that they have to right to use the Firefox, Camino or Omniweb icon in their app. It is not "streaming" the icon data, it is copied over and displayed superimposed on another icon which is presumably an internal OS X bundle. The audio is streamed but those icons are copied over and superimposed on each other on the phone. That is a clear violation of the IP of other programs in a manner that is not consistent with use on the mac it was pulled from.
Mozilla's trademark policy appears to allow this sort of use:
http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/trademarks/policy.html
More importantly, each of these companies is likely to argue for trademark infringement/unfair competition, not copyright infringement, particularly when the icon is trademarked (which is a different case than the Mac icons we are talking about).
It is permissible to use a trademark so long as there is no confusion as to source. That is, if people using the RA software are likely to think that somehow Mozilla (or the other companies) are the source of the software, this would be impermissible. It is permissible to use trademarks in a descriptive sense - i.e.: this icon means that the thing you are connecting to is the product Mozilla. There is also a fair use/non-trademark use defense. As long as the message I am sending is not "this product IS mozilla" it probably is not trademark infringement.

Playing around with a Mac OS X Leopard system and noticed that default apps can be modified without authentication by admins unlike Snow Leopard where authentication is required.
What exactly do you mean? Do you mean changing the default app for opening a file type, using the Get Info window? Or do you mean some modification to the app itself? If the former, it works the same in L and SL. I haven't tried the latter yet.

. The only foreseeable problem with the OP's suggestion is cost. Given the MB Air's price point, what happens to the prices in the MBP line?I don't think cost will be that big of a deal. My hunch is the base configuration comes with a 64GB SSD + 500 GB HD which I would be pretty happy with. Of course there will be options to upgrade to 512GB SDD and 1 TB HD for those willing to drop the cash.

from what ive read the difference between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo isnt much
its not like P4 and Core 2 Duo
the Core 2 Duo are -10-15% faster at the same clock speed but use more power
They're also 64-bit and if Apple uses the Conroe the FSB is a lot faster.

100 mil might be a lot, but I think apple got its moneys worth, the got Creative of their back, they got a new accessory vendor, and they get to hold the pattent against other companies. I personally hope that more creative stuff becomes available for the mac, everyone seems to hate them but they make very good speakers, and their sound cards are very popular in the PC world amongst the gamers and even a few pro audio people. With so many products apple shouldnt leave a opportunity overlooked. :D

Did anyone notice Disney introduced their own cell phone service? Normally not much but given Steve's close ties to Disney perhaps they have shared some info? www.disneymobile.com
Some very interesting features, makes me think of things that might be available with a mac phone service.

Thats the difference between the US and UK, we dont have your gun culture:mad:
That's so patronising. Are you saying that Britain has never had a gun culture or just you narrow experience of the world leads you to believe this to be the case? Either way, you seem to have missed the not so gradual slide of Great Britain into a cowering corner of the United States of Europe.
There are two ways of law. Do what you like until a so called democracy decides what is against the law - or - Everything is against the law until a so called democracy decides what isn't illegal.
The UK used to have the former (something to do with the magna carte:rolleyes:) and now we are headed in the other direction where small groups of noisy fascists (of all political persuasion) seem to think it's ok to bypass our once great legal and government system and force changes with who shouts loudest television media.
BTW, what's the difference between 'gun culture' & the 'right to bare arms'
To me it's that same dynamic that allows Greenpeace to fake and replace information with their own doctored information and spin.
I'm sick of the way people think it's ok to 'skip around' the few basic but important rules that once held us altogether. It's not enough to be doing it in the name of a so called 'good cause'.

It dose 640x480 h.264 when updated to 1.2 but still need to find out if it dose games as well as the new improved video size.
has the new iPods been givev improved ARM7 or upgraded to ARM9 for games or is it the same and just needs 1.2 for games as well as 640x480 video

I'd be rather concerned about Apple's margins considering we're comparing a hardware company to a software company (free duplication of your product, once you've gotten past the millions in R&D to develop it) that has a captive market as large as Microsoft's (guaranteed sales to pay for your R&D easy, and a very large price point at $200-$300 a pop for Windows and Office).
However, maybe it's Microsoft that should be concerned; either Apple has disgusting margins, or Microsoft's other divisions are simply squandering their revenue so bad that they are essentially subsidizing the entire company with Windows/Office.

There is just so much wrong with 100% of your post. I can't even begin, nor will I spend time, contradicting every sentence.
There is so much wrong with 100% of your comment above. I can't even begin, nor will I spend time, trying to explain why you're 100% wrong about me being 100% wrong.
In short, there is no war between Apple and Microsoft...nor has been for decades.
You either jumped on the Apple bandwagon after Y2K or you're a MS fanboy. Which is it?
Also, you think Apple is not a monopoly? Apple makes the hardware, the OS, the apps, and Appstore, and APPROVES what apps consumers can purchase. No...that's not a monopoly. No, sir.
Sony makes Playstation 2, the Playstation 2 OS, the Playstation 2 network, and APPROVES what can or cannot be done on the Playstation 2 network and to some extent, APPROVES what games consumers can or cannot play on Playstation 2.
Therefore, based on your logic, Sony is a . . . MONOPOLY!
Let's do another one:
RIM makes the Playbook, the Playbook OS, the Playbook apps and Playbook app store, and APPROVES what apps consumer can purchase.
Therefore, based on your logic, RIM is a. . . .. MONOPOLY!

No. The claim simply stated 'Mac only'. Nothing more and nothing less and you agreed with said two word claim. Thunderbolt will be integrated into every Ivy Bridge chipset just like USB 3.0. It's not the same situation as FireWire in the slightest. Not only is it faster than USB 3.0 but it also works with USB via adapters as well as almost any other IO on the planet. FireWire worked only with FireWire devices.
You mean like FW was faster than USB and USB2? And yes, it will work with any USB device. You think that is an incentive for drive vendors to invest in it? Really? They might decide to stick with USB3, since consumers know the brand and it will work with the Macs that have TB.
I guess that's why we've seen so many PC manufacturers announce support for TB already. Right?
You mean the one right above your post that proves you wrong? Funny stuff.
I think a reading comprehension class would be good for you. That's 2 or 3 posts you have misread. He did explain how the two situations differ. Obviously they do. There are also some commonalities. I guess it might be a bit much to expect you to see those, given your demonstrated limitations with reading. They're subtle. Try hard.

Apple seems to agree with you. They want you to buy lifestyle products that complement your Mac and the iLife apps, as opposed to a sepearte 'Media Center' type hardware.
Yes, and watch that be a beefed up version of Front Row. But, then what would our Microsuck friends use?

Oh I see, you're a smart ass. Oh how cute!!!
Tell ya what little boy, Besides a business degree I also hold CCE and CFCC from the AACE as well as a PMP from the PMI. On top of all that, I have worked in the industry for over 35 years. I forgot more about business that your sarcastic smart ass will ever know.
And trust me, my degree and certs have little to do with it. A grade school kid knows that a company that just posted a quarter with revenues of $16.43 billion (which is an increase of 13% from the same period in 2010), and profit of $5.23 billion isn't "DEAD"...
Obviously you don't understand that, in which case, you wouldn't even be a good clerk. Judging from you childish post, I do think I've met before. Haven't I heard you say "Would you like fries with that Sir"????
Please don't fight gentleman...
I really thought all the CCE CFCC AACE PMP PMI ZGFHABZZZ letters where a joke... What does it all meeeeeeannn??

I, for one, would be happy to spread the Word to the ignorant masses if Apple came out with a cute little white tower to match everyone's cute little white iPod. :P The Mini's nice, and the new iMac is nice too, but I think this thing could help Apple a lot in the desktop segment. I'd say something like that's bound to come out at some point, but when is the big question.
Also, it's probably been mentioned earlier in the thread, but does anyone know how long after Kentsfield Clovertown is supposed to come out? I heard "early 2007" a while ago, but with Kentsfield coming out so early, I would think Clovertown won't take that long.In two weeks at the Intel Developer's Conference in San Francisco, I think Intel will tell us exactly. But from what I've read recently, looks like Clovertown will be shipping no later than November. So looks like worst case scenario will force Steve to have to introduce 8 core Mac Pros in four months at the MacWorld Expo San Francisco SteveNote January 9, 2007. I don't see how he could wait any longer than that.
Sure they will cost more than any previous Mac ever has, $4k is my guess, but to imagine there isn't a market for such a goliath is myopic in the extreme.

OMG.. I'm with Felt. "Security Guards" shouldn't carry guns, and if they do there should be training and good sense that goes into using it. Shooting the suspects in the head is criminal.
You're right. Perhaps the security guards should instead be trained in negotiation and psychology, so they would try to persuade the would-be criminals from committing crime. :D

Yes it is a deal breaker. I actually spend quite a bit of time in bed after lights out surfing and reading, keeping up with stuff (I am doing it at this moment) with the brightness at the lowest level +1 to not disturb my wife, and its definitely not enough to see the keyboard.
...
If it is absolutely deal breaker for you then you might look at Glowing fluorescent keyboard stickers (http://www.amazon.com/Glowing-fluorescent-English-keyboard-stickers/dp/B004CEN1VU) ...
I'd think it's not nearly as good as Apple's backlight (and you can't ramp it up, or turn it off )
For me it would be nice to have KB backlight, but not a big deal
